I sit near the most, uh, interesting people

The girl in front of me is doing online banking with the Credit Union of Colorado. Every subject the professor talks about in class, she looks up on Wikipedia. Sometimes she goes off-topic and looks up movie stars. The guy on my right has his shoes off and keeps dragging his bare feet across the [...]

HIST291: awaiting the groin-grab

The groin-grab kid plopped himself down next to me again. I’m awaiting (but mostly dreading) Groin-Grab, Part II. EDIT (2:45 PM): GG II accomplished. Only five minutes into class. EDIT (3:03 PM): GG III accomplished. Ugh, peripheral vision. EDIT (3:14 PM): GG IV accomplished. Someone is smoking outside the window, and I just sucked in [...]

HIST291: groin-grab in progress

A kid sitting in front and to the right of me has, for the second time now, stuck his hand down his pants in class. He looks side-to-side with a little twist of the neck, then when apparently convinced that no one is looking, he slides his hand, not in his pocket, but under the [...]

The results are in, friends

I used 48 sheets over three days; others used 101 sheets each in the same period. I used an average of 16 sheets per day; others used 34 sheets each per day. At this rate, a roll would last me 22 days. For others, a roll would last just 10 days. I used 14% of [...]

As I sit here listening to Canadian indie rock

CBC Radio 3, an Internet radio station accessible through iTunes (also on Sirius satellite radio, and on the Web), plays so much good music. Canadian indie rock is excellent. It’s through this station that I recently discovered The Weakerthans and their song “Civil Twilight,” whose lyrics I posted earlier. I can’t stop listening to it. [...]

Observations while folding clothes

The combination of The Album Leaf song “Malmo” with the crickets chirping outside my window is magical. Share this entry:

World record: Largest phallic symbol

I was driving home from Boston/Milton/lunch with Chris yesterday and, on Sycamore Street in Holbrook, we came across some construction workers installing a new utility pole. A tall, wooden utility pole that they were apparently raising up from a leaning position at about a 55º angle to the ground. Due to impeccable timing on both [...]

Brief observations of recent days

We have a TV at work mounted on the wall that’s supposed to be kept on CNN or something equivalent. But one of my coworkers, Henok, always puts it on the History Channel, or the Discovery Channel, or TBS. On Friday, he was on the phone and had the Discovery Channel on. Now, it’s Shark [...]

Random thoughts about random stuff

When I put my feet on the heater and type on my PowerBook, my wrists have a funny feeling of electrical charge. Not enough to get a shock from it, but this little sense of current that creates a bit of drag when I drag my wrists around the palm rests. The heater plate is [...]

Poems from a late-night street encounter

I was waiting for the valet to bring my car tonight after closing up the store and a man came up to me with a bunch of flyers. “If you ever have any problems with a lady,” he told me, “read her this poem,” he said as he put a wrinkled sheet of white paper [...]
