I think the message of the song is that, yes, it's all about the female's perception of herself. Despite what she thinks, though, the guy sees through all her delusions of being fat, and can see what she can't: that she's beautiful. Men will never understand. It's not about the fact that someone else might not like you because you're fat. It's about you being dissatisfied with yourself and control and blah blah blah. So it's a bit more complicated than the song makes it out to be. But then again, it's from a man's perspective so I can't really expect much anyways. Though the magazines comment is dead-on. Moral of this story: 99% of women think they’re fat. Men will never understand.
