Wesleying is blowing up!

Top-notch coverage of the Fountain incident, mainstream media acknowledgment, increasing legitimacy (including recognition by the University as a legitimate press outlet), and now a coordinated and quite professional plan to cover anything and everything related to Obama’s speech at Reunion & Commencement… we are on a roll!

Taking down the pool, and woodland animals

Since we hadn’t opened our pool in a few summers, we decided to take it down. Or, well, my dad and I decided to take it down. My mom was a bit less enthusiastic, since she tended to use it a lot.
But, aside from my mom, no one used it very much anymore, and maintaining [...]

Bend Sinister’s “Time Breaks Down”

I’ve developed so much more respect for Canadians since I started listening to CBC Radio 3 all the time, starting maybe a year ago.
Bend Sinister is one of the indie/rock/progressive bands I’ve found through that lovely radio station. You can check out the music video for “Time Breaks Down”—my favorite song of theirs—at YouTube. Usually [...]

Eisley’s “Marvelous Things”

The transition from creepy verses of strange visions to the expansive, light-filled chorus is really effective in this song—a good example of the instrumentation following closely with the lyrics. The opening verse is tentative, dark, and close… and then the sound opens up, fills out and surrounds, just like the morning light that’s “burst[ing] bright”.
Most [...]

Born Ruffians’ “Foxes Mate for Life”

Musically, this song’s a bit too eclectic unconventional I-can’t-think-of-a-good-word-for-what-I’m-thinking to make it onto my favorites list, but the lyrics and the message rock. The theme of unconditional love, mixed in with just the right amount of countercultural subversion, plus a bit of affirmative optimism… Mm, yummy!
Make a point of having fun
It’ll help you get through [...]

iTunes song ratings

I’ve been rating most of my music in iTunes for a few years now. But I’ve never had a specific policy worked out for deciding which song gets five stars, which song deserves only four stars, and so on. But, I think I’ve finally got it worked out:

One star: A terrible song. I hate it, [...]

First day of work is tomorrow

I start working back at The Westin tomorrow. Hooray.
Assuming that the price of gas is $3.90/gal, and figuring that it’s 43 miles roundtrip to work in a car with an average fuel efficiency of 25 mpg, I figured that it would cost me $16.71 a day to drive to work, after adding on employee parking [...]

Immediate thoughts on Priya’s video

I’m not going to describe the Fountain Ave. incident that happened early Friday morning, because I pulled an all-nighter to work with the Wesleying team to keep the campus informed, and wrote enough about it there. Needless to say, if you haven’t heard about it, check out the blog.
I just watched Priya’s video footage of [...]

One… more… paper…

I can’t do it anymore. I’ve got no motivation whatsoever to write this last paper. It’s 4:30 in the morning, I need eight pages by noon, and I just can’t bring myself to do it. This is so ridiculous. I can’t wait to get away from academics for a few months!

Rare species caught on camera!

It’s not often that you’ll see me having not showered in days, wearing the same clothes I’ve been wearing for a week, and sporting those tired eyes that still show the scars of yesterday’s all-nighter in the library. But I figured, why not? It’ll be a good reminder of the torture of final exams.
