Anthemic!

A while ago I put forth some conditions for differentiating between good songs and great songs. Well, I was listening to a CBC Radio 3 podcast the other day, in which the host described a song as being “anthemic”.

Definition of “Anthemic”

I immediately realized that that’s the word I was searching for when describing this:

Some [songs] can be bright and happy, with witty writing and a bouncy melody. Others just need to have a catchy trumpet fanfare (I’m a sucker for the trumpet fanfare). And then, some great songs, while they have lyrics that don’t exactly “speak to me,” compensate with a highly energetic and upbeat melody.

What I was trying to get at, was that I’m a sucker for anthemic songs.
