Lifehouse’s “Hanging By a Moment”

There are probably very few, if any, people reading this blog, who knew me before college (with the notable exception of Chris). Which is good, because if you’d known me before Wesleyan—or really, before high school—you’d know that this song has had a very specific significance in my life.

The good part about no one knowing that significance is that no one will remind me of it. Because in the intervening years, I’ve crafted a totally new meaning for this song, a new kind of significance that’s a blend of the old and the new… or rather, the old and what I long to be the new.

I’m desperate for changing
Starving for truth
I’m closer to where I started
I’m chasing after you

I’m falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I’ve held on to
I’m standing here until you make me move
I’m hanging by a moment here with you

Forgetting all I’m lacking
Completely incomplete
I’ll take your invitation
You take all of me

Now, I’m falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I’ve held on to
I’m standing here until you make me move
I’m hanging by a moment here with you

I’m living for the only thing I know
I’m running and not quite sure where to go
And I don’t know what I’m diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you

There’s nothing else to lose
There’s nothing to find
There’s nothing in the world
That could change my mind

There is nothing else…
There is nothing else…
There is nothing else…

More to follow, if I can get my thoughts together.
