Mm, first day of classes after Spring Break. Woke up at 10 o’clock, showered, headed off to ECON256, and got my paper back: a B+. Not bad, but not what I was looking for. I need all A’s this semester in order to preserve my GPA. Anyway, I stuffed that paper in my bag and headed to Weshop, and bought some milk so I could make macaroni and cheese. Yum! The last time I made macaroni and cheese, I had no milk, and it was chunky and gritty. Not so yum!
I headed down to the bank after reading The New York Times and cheering on those Greek reporters for protesting at the start of the Olympic torch-lighting ceremony. Man, fuck the Chinese government:
The brief disruption was broadcast live by Greek national television, but China state television cut away to a prerecorded scene, blocking millions of Chinese view[er]s from watching the tumultuous start to the Games in their nation.
I can’t wait until the Chinese people have some say in their lives, and aren’t kept blind to the world around them. The U.S. needs to regain its idealism and start practicing what it’s preaching; we need to regain the moral authority needed to condemn China for its humanitarian abuses, and rally other peoples to our cause, instead of letting naked economic interest dictate our relations with the Sino-Commies. There are very few points on which our current president and I agree, but one of those is the desire to spread freedom and democracy throughout the world (that is not to say I agree with his preferred methods). And China is one of those test cases that we need to take on, to push for humanitarian reform and a legitimate path toward representative government.
Blah. Julia at the bank seemed like she didn’t recognize me at first, because of the haircut. I’ve gotten a lot of sidelong glances from people, not realizing that it’s still me without all that hair. It’s kinda funny. This morning in class, Jonah noticed that I got a haircut. “Wow, that’s drastic!” he said. Heh.
My parents are coming down on Sunday, and we’re going out to dinner. Yum! They’re also bringing the mason jar down, so I can make my pickled peppers again. Yum!
There’s a lot of yumminess in this entry.
Oh, and when I got back, I had a call from IDG about the summer internship I applied for. Turns out it’s not unpaid, which is good; but I’ll still need some money for new clothes for work, and gasoline… so I’m going to pull another last-minute thang tomorrow, and apply for the Wesleyan Summer Experience Grant, before it’s due… at midnight.
After the brief interview, I got an email from my AMST200 professor saying that my paper was one of the best in the class. How sweet! No worries about a B+ there. Now I’m just waiting for my RELI286 paper to be returned, hopefully on Wednesday. I think that was a good one, too (unlike the AMST200 paper, which I didn’t find particularly especial). At least, I hope, anyway.
And now, with dinner out of the way, it’s time to start writing my AMST201 paper, due tomorrow at 1:10 in the afternoon. I hope the guys upstairs stop their band practice relatively soon!
