A year or two of long, curly locks were shorn from my head on Thursday afternoon. I decided to begin anew with my hair, and now it’s around three inches long, at its longest. The sides are really short, and so is the hair on the back of my head. It’s also darker, it seems to me—probably since so much of my long hair had been exposed to the summer sunlight and had become quite blonde.
Anyway, I was a bit sad to see it go. I sat there as giant clumps of brown curls were falling from my scalp into my lap and onto my shoulders, making big heaps of fluffy hair. I looked in the mirror and I could see the shape of my scalp again! So weird. And in the shower, I kept trying to shampoo the back of my head, but it didn’t feel like I was doing anything, since there was just so little hair there. And I have a hairline again! This is all so new to me.
Positives:
- Much easier to shampoo hair, making for dramatically shorter showers;
- Much easier to style hair: soon, I probs won’t need to put stuff in it;
- No shedding in the shower, in my bed, on my floor, or on my clothes;
- Got rid of a lot of dry hair, which was getting to look quite frizzy;
- No more tangles, no more knots, no more pulling: yay;
- Cuts down on bedhead and morning fluffiness;
- Makes it easier to get up, brush teeth, and run to class.
Negatives:
- I liked the curls—they were bouncy and fun;
- My hair seems habituated to its old ways, and curls upwards if I don’t put stuff in it to keep it down, making it look kinda weird sometimes;
- Wes girls will probs find me less attractive;
- I look a few years younger;
- It’s gone… all gone.
