Justin writes the DCR

But will he get a response to his civic-minded email? And will the problem be fixed? Those are the questions that really matter.

Hello,

I recently took a walk through Ames Nowell State Park in Abington, while home on break. While crossing the boardwalk, I noticed that it had had some repairs done, and the old, rotting, and possibly pressure-treated planks that were replaced were simply thrown off the side of the boardwalk, into the wetlands below.

I do not know how long this waste has been sitting in the park, but it is a problem to have old and possibly hazardously-treated lumber sitting in wetland areas. While I applaud the improvements made to the boardwalk, I urge the DCR to properly dispose of this waste as soon as possible, and especially before the ground thaws and the planks leach whatever’s in them into the water of Cleveland Pond.

Photographs of the area affected are below. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
