Dreaming, but not about classmates

I wish I had more classes that dealt directly with politics. It frustrates me, though, because people say obvious things and get rewarded for them, and that makes me angry. Also, people in this class seem very, uh, unformed in their political leanings. Speaking in generalities about Kennedy and Goldwater, deploring the latter but not [...]

Nothing much to report, ‘cept the feline

Today was pretty standard. Nothing overly exciting. I did laundry, and my room smells like fabric softener now. My housemates are talking about getting a cat in the house. I am opposed, but so long as I bear absolutely no responsibility for feeding it, caring for it, playing with it, paying for it, or smelling [...]

The latter half of my day, summarized

Went to dinner. Met Joe, who apparently is a friend of Thom Beckwith. Came across my second lost-and-found item of the day (a student’s paycheck). Studied a bit (and nearly fell asleep) in SciLi. Help Desk from 7:45 until 10. I had to call P-Safe to alarm the place when I left. Oh, and I [...]

Thoughts on the Help Desk relocation

After we were reproached today by our professor for not putting enough effort into Latin, I stopped by the new Help Desk, which is now in SCIE 116 instead of SCIE 143. It’s, uh, interesting. Brighter, devoid of any personality in the form of decorations on the walls and such. Definitely not as cozy; it’s [...]

“Plea from a Cat Named Virtute”

Last.fm reveals that I’ve listened to The Weakerthans at least 504 times this week. And it’s been quite worth it. Only three more days till the show! Why don’t you ever want to play? I’m tired of this piece of string You sleep as much as I do now And you don’t eat much of [...]

The Sox are the new World Series champs!

It’s a happy day for all in Red Sox Nation. The Sox just won the World Series, shutting out Colorado by winning the first four games. It’s not as momentous as 2004, but damn, is victory sweet!

Even though his campaign lost 44 states…

I’ve begun reading Barry Goldwater’s The Conscience of a Conservative, and I have to say: conservatism never seemed so sensible, nor so right. Frankly, I’m scared as to what this means for my political consciousness.

The anatomy of an excellent day

Today was an example of an excellent day. I was able to sleep in without guilt—no class on Thursday mornings. I woke up at 11:00 and took a shower in which a lot of my tangles came out (as well as a lot of hair). Then I met Jan Marie for coffee; I had to [...]

I am such a rogue!

Blogging in class makes me feel so dirty. There is a lecture at 4:15 in Shanklin 107, from a professor at Yale, titled “Bodies and Minds.” It sounds very interesting, and I think I will go: Evidence from developmental psychology suggests that children and adults see physical entities such as objects (or bodies) as fundamentally [...]

The Sox won, so today was a good day

They’ve won their last four games with a combined score of 43-6. Crazy! Today, today, today. What did I do? Well, I hit snooze enough times to successfully skip my first class, Latin. Oops. I have to stop doing that. I woke up and immediately starting writing the midterm essay that was due by 2:30. [...]
