Terrible movies and shish kebabs

I just tried to watch Superbad but found that I couldn’t. Terrible movie, up there with Napoleon Dynamite. Actually, the two are similar in that they’re both about the socially-inept, loser-kinda high school kid. I hate those movies. Hate them! And I also hate movies that think a good storyline and interesting dialogue can be substituted for relentless cursing and juvenile humor. I realize that that kind of stuff might appeal to the demographic the movie was likely aimed at, but come on. Anchorman could be childish and clumsy and still remain hilarious due to its wit, compelling storyline, and well-considered character dynamics. Superbad could not, and I could not finish watching it.

After many phone calls to my mom today, I also completed my first meal. I made shish kebabs with beef, red peppers, and onions. And rice on the side. It came out pretty good, though I think I should’ve let the rice cook for a few more minutes. The entire set up was also pretty ghetto: we have no microwave right now, so I defrosted the meat by putting it in the steam of a pan of boiling water. It (mostly) worked. Also, we have no lid for the one pan currently in the house, so I had to use a plate that kinda-sorta-not-really fit over the pan, and it was tremendously difficult to remove it to stir the rice because we have no potholders.

Damn, we have a lot of shopping to do one Jeffrey and Claire get here!

It’s off to bed, and another day of Help Desk. And maybe a run if I can wake up early enough. (Which means, no run.) Good night!

Hey a message from my mom:

“The old fashioned way to defrost things was to put the food on the counter. Some people think this is unsanitary, so just keep the counter clean!”

That is a nifty way that you came up with to defrost, man! NIcely done.

I would’ve just left it out on the counter, but I had just woken up and didn’t want to wait hours for my food to defrost. I would’ve been eating at 11:30 PM! :-P
