One last entry for the night, followed by bed

My left hand has been having some problems lately. My pinky finger has been going totally numb, randomly, and I can’t figure out what causes it. Sometimes my ring finger goes numb along with it. I woke up the other night after falling asleep in my clothes on top of the bed, and tried to take my clothes off so I could get under the covers and actually sleep. But my two fingers were numb and I had to switch hands, because I couldn’t unbutton my shirt when I first tried.

I did some research (I may have also posted about this already) and it seems to be something with the ulnar nerve. I’m a bit worried about it, because Chris’ mom, I guess, had some prior experience with this type of injury and was, like, “Go get it checked out! Now!” But, you know, the numbness isn’t there 100% of the time, and it’s not really that much of a bother. Really, my main reason for not scheduling an appointment is that the copay for doctor’s visits is $25, and my brother already has to go to get his knee checked out. I don’t want to spend my parents’ money, I s’pose.

I haven’t seen Elvin, my friend in the Security Department at The Westin, in a few days. We had been getting along pretty well; we had all kinds of discussions, from rats to girlfriends to politics. Talking politics with Elvin was especially interesting, because he’s black and lives in Dorchester (I think), and having someone from that background talk about the issues was something totally new to me. His concerns on police behavior, mayoral priorities, abortion, the courts, and corruption were all new to me. Just goes to show you how all the diversity at Wes isn’t, well, that diverse. At least, politically. Elvin gives a fresh perspective and, I think, probably represents a good segment of his demographic. It’s a new way to look at issues. I’m glad for it.

American University sent me their little brochure about summer programs in the mail. It looks really interesting. It’s all about politics and public service and peace and diplomacy and conflict resolution and all that good stuff. I think that’s where I wnat to go in life. Some kind of diplomatic thing, or policy thing. Maybe. Really, I have no idea. But maybe.

I am also trying to get the guys interested in building a new poker table, from scratch. It’ll be sweet, but a little expensive. I want to play poker more often, and expand our repertoire of games to more than just Hold ‘Em and five-card draw. I also want to play because, in our last night of cards, I went home 70% more than I started with.
