Blood Diamond and high school friends.

Tonight I went out to dinner and to see Blood Diamond with a couple high school friends–one of whom (Melissa) I usually get together with once over breaks and one of whom (Albert) I haven’t seem since graduation.  It was really nice, really easy to fall back into the old friendships.  We were able to interact as if we’d been seeing each other regularly all this time.  I genuinely care about both of them, so I’m glad to see that they’re doing well.

Blood Diamond was good–it was one of a genre that has started to pick up steam recently: movies that take place in Africa, feature suffering and death of lots of Africans, and make you feel guilty.  Hotel Rwanda and The Constant Gardener are other examples.   Afterwards I was definitely like, “Shit!  The rest of the world!  Stuff sucks there!”
