Spent the last two days in NYC. Downsides:
- Sharing hotel room with family. ALTHOUGH since Ben and I don’t share a bed and hence it was my turn to sleep on the couch (and surprise surprise we got a two-room thingie) I got a separate room which meant I didn’t have to go to bed at the same time as everyone else, huzzah! And, I had a TV. So it wasn’t all bad, except for not getting good rest because it was a sofa-bed.
- Family’d!!! My mom’s side of the family is pretty much all as take-charge as she is, which can get scary. Also, rather than a let’s-spoil-the-children attitude, as held by my dad’s side, my mom’s family could care less what the children want, dammit, because they’re coming to the museum and that’s that. However, I did get to have a fun discussion with my aunt about how children are dumb and not good to have (she and my hilariously immature uncle have none) and also I got to watch said uncle have too much to drink at dinner and then proceed to imitate his favorite rappers (“yo yo yo”) to my aunt’s embarrassment, which was actually really entertaining.
- The hours. People woke me up all early ‘n shit. Also I was pretty sick basically the whole time. Fuck.
Advantages:
- Hangin’ out. Last night Ben and I watched Star Trek, mostly because when you want to watch TV at a hotel there is rarely more than one option. It was really fucking hilarious. A banner episode. Kirk seduces a female alien, then convinces these other evil-brain-aliens of the value of love. Or something.
- Fuckin’ EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL. Hell yeah. Was actually both funnier and more high-quality than I expected. Plus, I got blood all on me (the first three rows are the “splatter zone”) and, since the bar was open at intermission and there was a guy (don’t worry, he was an officially-sanctioned guy) walking around the audience selling shots along with candy and bottled water, everyone around us (me and Ben) was nice and liquored up by the end. The music during the intermission and before/after the show was all stuff like AC/DC, whom I love dearly, and other 80s-rock. And of course immortal lines like:
“Good—bad—I’m the guy with the gun.”
Goddamn.
- It wasn’t all cold! Mostly. And we got to take taxis when it was.
- … a mating session with Mrs. Duck?
EDIT: Guys, this was a joke. THIS DID NOT ACTUALLY HAPPEN. Eeew.
So anywho, I’m back now, probably gonna spend New years with my bro (we’re thinking of renting Evil Dead, because believe it or not we’ve never seen the first movie). Also, for all you people who are going through FF withdrawal (OR watching-Jeffrey-play-FF withdrawal) I post this link.

I’m sorry you were sick. Being sick can make an otherwise okay or pretty cool time fairly lame.
Claire’s mom got ploughed! By Claire’s dad, for once.
